Week 5: Gabon

I'm learning new things here everyday. For instance, Gabon is a country is Africa and the country I've been assigned to campaign for in a mock election for the United Nation Human Rights Council for my International Human Rights class. When I first found out, I couldn't help but think what the fk is Gabon. Then after researching it, I found out its one of those countries with massacres, corruption and child trafficking. It practically screams, vote for me.

This week has settled down a bit in terms of excitement but I'm still keeping busy and meeting new people all the time. Monday, I went to gymnastics club off campus, only to look silly doing cartwheels while everyone else was backflipping and whatnot. But I mean it's all about trying new things here.  Thursday's bar review consisted of $1 shots and $2 gin and tonics so you can imagine how that went. Friday was the first time I'd skipped a class (9am legal research, you would too). And on Saturday I played beer pong at a uni bar on a real beer pong table and won! (Sara also, we were on a team).

I feel bad for saying this, but I'm not really missing home. But I blame facebook and whatsapp for that. I'm in two worlds at once.

Some of the goodies that Rachel mailed over (its a rape whistle).

Delicious experimental cooking - chicken, mushroom tomato and baby spinach stir fried, over pasta.

Couldn't get enough of my lecturer's outfit that day.

Me and the beautiful Sara!

With Charlotte and Jacopo.

A shot of the balloon festival held in Forest Park over the weekend. Pretty bloody amazing.

Like I said, pretty bloody amazing.

Sara, Edouard and Jacopo having a drink on our roof top.

Beer pong

After beer bong.

Sneaky Skype Pt 2

Saying hi to Forrest.

Celebrating my dad's birthday/tormenting me with cake.

I miss you too, Hannah.

Last time I checked, Labradors were bloody heavy.

Waking up on a Saturday morning to tipsy video messages backed up by a Skype tour of Nicky's 21st

Week 3 & 4:

I never thought I'd say (or feel) this, but St Louis is starting to feel like home.
Everything has fallen into place and it's freaking awesome.

I was allowed to drop a subject after some persuasive emails to the right people.
I've figured out how to open my locker, after only 2 weeks of trying.
I no longer get a sore butt from riding my bike everywhere.
Only one of my teachers uses the socratic method so I only have to prepare for one class.
The on campus events that provide free food and drink seem to be a regular thing.
I've built up a nice summer tan without having to go to the beach (although Teresa thinks I've been tanning on my rooftop).
Kind friends with cars have been willing to help a brother out.
I reached a new level of (in)sanity after having not slept for over 24 hours because we decided it would be good to catch a 3:30am 6 hour bus to Chicago.
I went to Chicago.
I ate enough free chocolate to fill a legitimate pinata at the WashU Student Activities Fair (think market day with all the society stalls - Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are my favourite).

I feel like my blogging skills are lapsing into a rut and that I can no longer write properly. I think its all the broken English I've been lazing into around my friends.

Gotham City

I have to live with this guy.

Me in Chicago.

The underside of the big bean sculpture in Millennium Park which is far too entertaining for the simple minded.

View of Chicago from Willis Tower.

Squeezing 9 people into a taxi - 3 in the back, 5 in the middle, 1 with the luxury of the front seat.

Roy Lichtenstein at the Art Institute

All the girls at the Thursday bar review.

Teresa's new favourite hobby: self-potraits. We had just run from one building into another through a storm and the excitement of it called for a photo.

A happy elephant at the St Louis Zoo in Forest Park. It's only a 15 minute bike ride from my house and is free! But a Saturday morning is not the best time to go if you don't like stepping on small children.

Me next to the elephant.

Getting my greens.

Refer to previous caption a few photos up.

Jacopo and Ben at Drunken Fish - we tried peach and mango infused sake. I recommend it a million times more than the bacon bloody mary that I tried a couple weeks ago.

Sara, Akele, Veronica, Teresa and I at a Sunday BBQ hosted by a mad American-Korean dude named Sam and his wife.

Sh!t my professor says

28th August
*asks the class a question*
"Come on, hands in the air, like you just don't care"

29th August
*student is struggling to answer a question*
"Run baby, run"

5th September
"Just give it to me.... in your own words"

Now reread the above and imagine a volumptuous black woman (named Peggie) saying it.

Been super busy lately, so I'll do a more comprehensive blog in a few days!

Edouard, Charlotte and I in Chicago!
