Manic and frantic

Over the past few weeks I struck a goldmine of motivation, inspiration and dedication
And used it all on my sewing.
So in my usual tradition, I made myself something jazzy to wear to the festival I went to last weekend.

In my opinion, the distaste toward Stereosonic is disproportionate to the quality it presents.
Ok yes there are girls and boys in scantily clad clothes, if any clothes at all.
But when you realise that it is a gathering of the best DJs in the world all in one place, it simply blows your mind.

Sew I'll do it better

You know that feeling you get, when everyone you ask for help just doesn't seem to understand what you need and you ultimately have to do it yourself?
That's how I often feel about retail.

In recent weeks, shopping for a work Christmas party dress proved to be frustrating and difficult and so with two days to go, I gave up and hit my favourite stomping ground, Lincraft.
With (unfortunately expensive)fabric in hand I dashed home to begin my 36 hour project from scratch.

I'm fortunate enough to have a mother who was once as passionate as I am about sewing and has boxes of patterns that I've rummaged through many times over my sewing life. My sewing style is rather stubborn, as I've never followed a full pattern from start to finish. I'll take a pattern piece from one thing, trace something from an item I already own, draw something in the hope that it's right and then mash it altogether.
The process ends up being: sew, try it on, fix, sew, try it on, fix.

Anyway, here is the final product of my last minute dress. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

Khakiki

My latest creation from my machine.
Sadly, it will probably be a while now until my next.

Time, space and resources are at an all time low :(

My my

Oh how time does fly.
It's been two months since I've been home!

So what the hell have I been doing?

I've climbed a mountain - quite literally.

I've farewelled a dear and close friend, who is off on a 5 month adventure to try new food, see extraordinary things and meet people with tales to tell.

I've returned to my saviour of sanity, my sewing machine.  I love making little one off pieces like this top.

I flew to Melbourne to visit a friend who just recently moved there to start her grad job.

I celebrated the 22nd birthdays of two of my oldest friends
10 years with Trew and 16 years with Verity - 10 & 16 years of giggles, bitching and damn good cake.

I celebrated the milestone that is 21, of my real life china doll.

I've made sure to put those restless feelings of reverse homesickness at ease.

And I've just started helping out with Cancer Council Qld. The teddy bears make it that extra bit rewarding ^_^

So I guess that's it.

GYPSY

Seeing as I will be away from my dear Brother for the next 5 months, I thought I'd sew one last piece, since I still had fabric left over from my law ball dress.
At first, I hated the pattern. I thought it was hideous. But now it's grown on me and I'm finally understanding the tribal/gypsy/maybe Indian vibe it gives off.

What I love about sewing is never knowing what it's going to look like when it's done.
It's like creating art.
Not using pattern pieces means I have to measure, adjust and alter as I go.
I get to see what makes the fabric flow and kink.
I can make it fit me, and me only.
But the best part is knowing that I've made it myself.

From my machine

I forgot to post about this piece after I completed it.
It's something a little bit different to what I've made before and my craftsmanship was a bit dodgy, but overall I was pleased with it.
I wore it to Law Ball the very next night after my 21st and my dance moves proved too much for it to handle, resulting in it splitting down the side.
To my drunken amusement, I had to spend the remaining hours of the night with my left arm by my side, only lifting it to give my friends a sneaky peak.

summer loving

Here is the latest creation to come from the sweet collaboration of my imagination and sewing machine.
I think it's perfect as a festival top, so I'm going to save it for Future Music (not until March unfortunately) and try to resist wearing it before then.
It actually took me around the same amount of time to make as my NYE dress, because I effed up the front piece and had to start again.
Ah well. The final product was worth it!

my favourite

Sometimes you'll do anything, just to forget all the crap that is going on in your mind. Sex, drugs, rock'n'roll etc etc.
But I prefer to sew.
So I sat down ALL day, making this pretty little thing for NYE.
Even though I had just bought a dress the day before (at least I can save it for another occasion now!)

semi-employed

fuarkk I really need to get called to work. After 3 months of steady work, they haven't called me in 3 weeks and now my bank account is decreasing day by day :(
So in the meantime, with all this spare time, I managed to bust this
piece out.
I'm not entirely happy with it, but I guess it was a nice little experiment.

Hot CHesty DD Girls on Webcam NOW

Baha.
So being the impatient, productive yet lazy person I am (contradicting but it makes sense), I couldn't wait for my camera to charge.
Instead, I opted for a silly webcam sesh to show you my first sewing creation of the summer.
Its really just a result of being resourceful and using up all my scrap fabric before I break the bank getting new fabric.

Its similar to my previous black skirt I made, but this time it has a white underlay giving it the appearance of a whole new colour, with a shorter cut and different shape.
The top is a cutie I made around this time last year.

A bit of recycling

My favourite dress from when I was in high school.
I couldn't bear to throw it away (it's a first date dress!)
But my wardrobe was in desperate need of clearing.
So here it is.

got a new brother for my birthday

Say hello to my new brother.
Alright so I have no idea where he stands in the world of sewing machines, but I don't care because I will love him regardless. It was a gift from my dad. And you never question a gift!
I'm thinking I'll save the old one until I'm 80 so it becomes vintage.

stitch me up

My latest sewing creations!
Ok so the top is the same as the one I made ages ago, EXCEPT, it has sleeves :)
I had the changing season in mind when I made it.
But I also changed the scoop of the neck, to make it more ballerina-esq, like a leotard cut.
And in following this ballerina-esq effect, I made the flat-tutu skirt which is oh so much fun to twirl around in (wow thats corny).
So there you go, my latest sewing creations.

Ps: I'm getting excited for my birthday this week. I'm getting a new machine yeeeoww.

ignore my bra sticking out, please

welcome to my wardrobe

so here is the latest (maybe greatest so far) creation to come from my sewing machine and holiday boredom. I found a scrap piece of gorgeous floral fabric and used it to spruce up a singlet I made using the rest of my t-shirt fabric (circa Dec 2010, G's t-shirts).

ok its true, i am a model.

and these are my $1 bike shorts.

promise you won't laugh

so i've sewed my very own dress! but i started this project telling myself if would be a 'practise' dress. a test run. so i gathered all the scrap fabric i could find and created what i like to call, my ragdoll dress. now that i've completed it, i know what parts i want to alter when i make the real deal. i can also go out and buy proper fabric, so that i can make something wearable outside the house.
