Fall Break in NYC

So instead of a sensible week long mid-sem break, WashU has 'Fall Break' where they give you Thursday and Friday off classes. Charlotte, Sara and I took the liberty of making a trip out to the Big Apple from Wednesday to Saturday (leaving Sunday to re-coup and maybe study).

The first time I visited NYC was last year during the (American) summer and jesus it was full of tourists who cannot walk in a straight line. This time around, going in October, was much better, in terms of being able to walk down the sidewalk.

Our hostel wasn't the greatest place to reside, however when you are a travelling student booking holidays online, you'll take what you can get. On our first night, we shared our dorm with another Australian guy who I think was incredibly jet-lagged because he was sleep-talking (or yelling, rather). The second night, an unnaturally large girl graced us with her presence after 2am and made it very clear how top-notch her snoring abilities were. The third night was relatively better as the 3 other guys in our dorm didn't return until the later hours of the morning, one of them with a giant panda costume.

Overall, I'd have to say that even though my short 4 day break cost me nearly as much as my months rent, I'm glad I went and got to experience things I hadn't last year.

6am at the metro station!

Standing in Times Square

My favourite homeless sign so far. They are getting more and more creative!

The memorial fountain for one of the twin towers. It's a really eerie experience when you imagine what it would have been like to be there at the time.

$4.95 dinner at Chinatown ^_^

Quick snooze before getting on the subway.

Us on Brooklyn Bridge

Me! We walked from Brooklyn to Manhattan to get the full experience.

At first I asked for tickets to see Chicago and was told it would be $85. So I asked what the cheapest tickets were and 5 hours later we were watching Annie on Broadway.

Amazing waffle from a food truck on Bleecker Street. We sat at a park across the road to eat our waffles and were approached by a homeless man. He asked where we were from and I told him he wouldn't believe me if I told him. He proceeded to ask if I was Spanish.

The panda that our roomie brought back to the hostel.

American's getting into the spirit of Halloween.

My new snow jacket I bought at an outlet - ready for winter :)

Going home to St Louis.
